Automatic Retirement of External Examiners

External examiners typically have a role spanning three or four years. During this period, each external examiner is provided with an account for logging into Guru. For various reasons, the external examiner may need to log in outside of the completion of their term. For example, they may wish to download documentation, submit final reports or provide financial information.

Guru has always provided the facility to allow external examiners to log in at any time until their account was manually disabled. However, for data protection reasons, it is sometimes more preferable to automatically expire accounts that are no longer required.

We have now introduced a new facility to allow for the automatic expiry of external examiner accounts. This facility is turned off by default, but if you wish to enable it, simply let us know and we can set the expiry to a number of days of your choosing.

Three simple steps

  1. Determine how many days of grace you wish to apply before retirement
  2. Contact us and let us know the value (e.g. 180 days)
  3. External examiner accounts will automatically retire that number of days after the end of their term

If there is a later need to re-enable an external examiner account, this can be easily performed. The external examiner account will NOT be automatically expired after having been re-enabled.
