Exam Archival Changes

We have now made significant improvements to the way that examination paper archives are generated!

Examination office staff typically have a requirement to publish examination paper archives at particular times during the academic year. While the forthcoming ‘Guru Archive’ module will provide advanced archival facilities, currently the facility is available to download a ZIP file containing the archive.

This facility has been available for a number of years, but was always a ‘Click and Wait’ activity. Unfortunately, as the size of archives continued to grow, there could be scenarios where this process would timeout (for archives over about 1.5 Gb in size).

We have now changed the archival process to be a “background task”. This means that when the exams office generates an archive they no longer need to wait for the generation to complete. The generation will take place in the background and the user will be emailed a link once the archive has been completed.

Once we turn on the new notifications facility (more on that next week!), notifications will also be provided to the user to let them know that their archive is ready.

Archive Export Formats

Formats of examination paper archives are completely configurable by the institution using a variety of path variables including: school, faculty, programme code, programme title, module code, module title, semester etc.

Just let us now what you need and we’ll be happy to configure for your requirements.
